7 Ways to Experience Life at Night Market Cleveland: June Edition
1. Get active!
Join Cleveland Critical Mass, a public group of local bicycle enthusiasts, as they wind through the city from the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza and end at NMCLE.
Once you’re here, take a breather by striking a pose during yoga in the street at 6:30 p.m. with CiCLEvia, or learn about ancient combat practices at the Martial Arts Association booth where they’ll be demonstrating karate, tai chi, and taekwondo.
2. Bring Your Appetite!
Take some snacks home for later by picking up authentic ingredients and produce at Park To Shop Market’s booth. You can purchase Asian cookies and candies with interesting taste profiles, but don’t forget the Pocky!
The Pierogi Lady will have Crab Rangoon-stuffed pierogi and other favorites to put a little “Cleveland” into Asiatown. Pierogi can be bought by the bunch to take home and frozen for later.
3. Leave room for dessert!
Try a bubble tea from Siam Café or Koko Bakery. Melon, mango, coconut, taro, and lychee are all fruity flavors offered among many more, made with tapioca balls or liquid filled bubbles for a refreshing sweet treat. Add a Koko Bakery fresh fruit garnished custard for a true splurge.
SnowBros Shavery has delicious treats made of shaved “snow”, a mix between ice cream and shaved ice originating from Taiwan and similar to the Korean dessert patbbingsoo. Top it off with matcha green tea whipped cream, squishy mocha pieces, corn flakes, or berries. Drizzle condensed milk on top for an extra sweet sundae.
4. Shop ‘til you drop!
Gina Desantis Ceramics will be selling handmade Japanese-style noodle bowls especially for NMCLE. Buy a Japanese bag with chopstick handles from Jenci to store your new bowl in, and dragon soap from Barr’s Bars for an aromatic wash.
5. Enjoy the sights and sounds!
Hula Fusion is a brand new addition to NMCLE for this month! Their bright Polynesian outfits and headdresses are a sight to be seen as they dance to upbeat music from the islands. A fire knife dancer will light up the night and give everyone an extra spark. They take the main stage at 8:00 PM.
Samfox are a diverse group of blues-rockers reminiscent of Akron legends The Black Keys; they play the main stage at 9:00 PM. NMCLE is a fusion of cultural performance and traditional instrumentation with upcoming bands that are distinctly Cleveland at heart and offer something unique to the city’s music scene.
End the night by dancing under the lights lining Rockwell Ave. to P.stoops, an innovative turntablist who melds exotica with instrumental hip-hop tracks, bossa-nova beats, and Hawaiian slide guitars. He’ll have you breaking a sweat before the night is finished from 10:00-11:00 PM.
6. Join the fun!
We’ll be having a very special “Year of the Monkey” statue auction just for our attendees. The statues were custom painted by Cleveland artists as a part of the “Year of the Zodiac” series in the St. Clair Superior neighborhood. 8 hand-painted monkey statues will be auctioned off at NMCLE.
One lucky participant in our raffle will win a monkey to take home with them as well as other great prizes including a trip to Asia. Ask for more information at the NMCLE stall.
7. Support NMCLE!
Seeing the community come out and have fun is our favorite part of NMCLE! We love seeing you dance, eat, shop, and enjoy! Your support of local businesses, community partners, and sponsors is integral to sustaining this event.
Stop by our NMCLE booth and grab one of our signature t-shirts, pins, posters, and more! Every purchase made goes directly to support the growth of NMCLE as a part of the Asiatown community. What a better way to say that you love NMCLE then by rocking some of our great gear?
